Nature Photography
Nature photography is the easiest types of photography as nature is everywhere as soon as you set your foot outdoors. There is no limit to the time of day or the season for taking your camera and doing nature photography. If you are fortunate enough to have a yard, you probably find flowers, trees, birds, butterflies, small animals, and getting down to the lower life, a variety bugs, spiders, and species that you normally do not see.
Your will have to decide for yourself what type of nature photography you prefer. The camera you have will dictate somewhat the type of photography that you will be able to do. A zoom lens, 28 to 75mm, is a good start. From there, a close up lens and/or a telephoto lens, all depending on what you decide to photograph. A tripod is a must for most types of photography as it helps you compose a good picture, and keeps the camera steady.
Read books on what you decide to photograph. Any library will have a variety of photography books relating to nature. These articles will give you an idea about your subject as to the best time to shoot the pictures, and the habits, if what you are photographing is some form of animal life. There are also numerous books on photography which will give you many ideas.
Flower are probably the easiest to photograph, as there are flowers everywhere. Most parks, zoos, and botanical gardens have a wide variety of flowers. Try to get the name of the flower if possible, as it is more interesting when showing your photographs if you know the name of them.
Birds are also very interesting to photograph, as there are many of them out there. Purchase a bird book, as it will help you to identify the birds, as it is nice to know the names of what you are taking pictures of. Most of them do not sit still to have their pictures taken, but with a little patience and perseverance, they will give you many photographic possibilities. A telephoto lens and tripod are necessary for good bird pictures.
Next is the animal kingdom. There you start with the lowly mouse and up to the mighty elephant, and everything in between. The zoo is probably the best place to start as to the diversity of animal that are found there. The backgrounds are not always the best, depending on the zoo, but being patient, you will find good photographic possibilities. From there wild animals are found everywhere. Many are a challenge, but with some planning and patience, they will be worth the effort.
Photographing nature takes your imagination in seeing a picture. Nature is every where you look, whether is some type of water scene, mountains, desserts, forests, snow covered valley , or jungle. It is out there just waiting to be photographed, you just have to find it.
