First Digital Camera

When you finally decide to purchase your first digital camera, make a list of the type of pictures you want to take. This will give the salesman an idea of what camera to show you. It’s obviously going to be a digital camera, but there are hundreds of models to choose from.

The point and shoot cameras are the least expensive, the easiest to use, but lacking any features. They will all operate similarly, but with subtle differences. There are no adjustments, just point and release the shutter. Try your first digital camera before you purchase it. How does it feel? Have the salesperson let you take some pictures. What kind of a battery does it have? It should be a rechargeable battery with a charger. How do you want to carry it. Will it be in a holster, pocket, or a purse. Do you want to send pictures or have them printed? What size? Do not expect large prints from an inexpensive digital camera. A point and shoot camera will cost in the $100 to $200 price  range. If  this is your first digital camera, or you are just trying out a digital camera, do not let the salesperson talk you into a more expensive camera. The higher cost and more features will not take any better pictures.

Once you feel comfortable with the camera and find out that you want to become more serious about photography, then look for something more sophisticated.

After you have a chance to use your new first digital camera, you will start to understand how it works and how the pictures look. Are you pleased with the photos that you have taken? If you like the results, then keep clicking. If not, what is the problem? If it is the fault of the photographer, then you have to determine what you are doing wrong. Let others look at the photos. The camera will normally not be at fault. It will be the person using it.

To help advance your photography, find a local camera club. You will always find someone there that will help you with any problems that you have.
